Don't Be Afraid to Try New Things!

I had to wait until I was 41 to finally taste “rambutan,” but I could tell my taste-buds had been anticipating the opportunity for at least the last 20 years or so. Large seed, but sweet white exterior seed coating (once you peal off the prickly red skin from the seed like a banana or perhaps a very ripe orange). The exterior texture of the fruit reminded me of the strange seeds from the American sweet gum tree (also known as “alligator wood” that would dry out and accumulate in our yard in Florida when I was a kid – if you stepped on them, they did not feel nice!
